Why Believe in Yourself?

Some people think it doesn't matter if you believe in yourself, but it does. Believing in yourself is a crucial mindset that helps you to move forward in life. This mindset gives you the courage to try things and helps you to overcome more. This means you achieve greater success.

It’s the Foundation

What you believe does not create reality. It creates your behavior. When you believe in yourself, it gives you the attitude that you are strong, intelligent, and capable. It makes you value yourself and believe that you deserve all of the best things in life. Starting out with this mindset is the foundation for everything. You Trust Yourself

When you believe in yourself, you trust yourself and your abilities. Trusting in yourself gives you the confidence to make decisions and take action. You trust yourself to pass tests so you will have the courage to take classes. You will trust that you are attractive so you won't stay in a bad relationship. You trust your ability to make decisions and to give advice when people ask you to. You also trust yourself to overcome fears. Fear isn’t all bad though. You have to believe that you have the ability to succeed, or you won't even bother to try. So believe in yourself, and watch yourself achieve more.

Why We Don’t Sometimes

We don't believe in ourselves sometimes because we were taught not to. Maybe someone who raised us had low self-esteem and that's what they taught us. Maybe they tore us down and criticized us unfairly and we internalized that harsh, hurtful voice. Maybe they didn't especially tear us down, but they did not give us the emotional nurturing that we needed growing up. When you start not believing in yourself early, by the time you're an adult, it's a habit. Habits that are learned can be unlearned. Another reason that we may not believe in ourselves is because we compare ourselves to other people too much. It's wonderful to see other people's achievements and triumphs. Just because they achieved something before we did doesn't mean we never will. It doesn't make us inferior. Don't compare your achievements to someone else's. Be happy for them and also be proud of yourself, even if you feel like they've accomplished something you haven't.

What Happens if You Don’t

If you don’t believe in yourself, you will have no self-esteem. This will translate into a lack of effort. That happens because you don’t believe you can accomplish things, you won’t bother to try. It will feel pointless. You will get poor results in life- and you will feel bad. You will truly believe you are incapable of achieving what you want. Telling ourselves we are incapable is one way we lie to ourselves. Read more about self-deception here: Deceiving Lies we Tell Ourselves | Mysticsense

What to Do if You Don’t

If you don't believe in yourself, you can start today. With just a few things, you can slowly build on your sense of self-worth. Instead of focusing on how you believe you failed, focus on your wins and accomplishments. Instead of being upset with yourself when you reach for something and can't accomplish it, forgive yourself for that. Then learn, grow, do better. Every time we don't achieve something, there's an opportunity to learn.

Remember Every Win

Focusing on every time you don't accomplish something is counterproductive when you're trying to learn to believe in yourself. Instead, focus on the things that you did well. Maybe you lost your sports meet, but on the way home you rescued a homeless animal. Maybe you got a moderately low grade on your test instead of the better grade that you wanted. Don't forget about the time you did so well you got extra credit points. Instead of focusing on the bad, focus on the good. You really do make a difference. Forgive Losses

Don't beat yourself up if you lose. You can't win every time. Sometimes a loss is not as bad as you believe it is. Be objective and fair to yourself. There is always someone who achieves better than you, even if you achieved best for the day. Everybody wins sometimes, and everybody loses. If you lose, that's okay, just try again. You will win.

Learn

Learn

Every time you don't accomplish something you want to, or you are less than perfect, you have an opportunity. It's an opportunity to improve. What small detail did you miss that you could improve and use to grow from? What habits do you have that you could change? Is there a technique that you haven't tried, or is there one that you've been seeking to improve, but you've just not gotten where you want yet? Every day is an opportunity to do something better and to be a better version of yourself, so use every perceived failure or loss as a chance to do that. How to Believe in Yourself

Now it's time to move from not believing in yourself to actively believing in yourself. There are some very simple ways to do that. First, reject negative thoughts that put you down. Then, know who you are and what the best qualities are that you have. Instead of seeking perfection, simply do your best. Then improve anything that you want and live your best life your way on your own terms instead of trying to be like other people. These simple things will help you to believe in yourself.

Reject Negativity

Ugly negative messages can creep in at any time. Looking at your flaws when you should be highlighting strengths to prepare for a job interview is unacceptable. Memories of an ugly thing your ex said about your appearance on the way to a first date should be ignored. Self-doubt or the critical things other people say about us are unwelcome. Never let those things take over and rule your mind. Negativity stops us in our tracks and keeps us from believing in ourselves. Reject that.

Know Yourself

Nobody knows you better than yourself. What are you good at and what can be improved? Don’t think of things that could improve as flaws or failures. Think of them as opportunities to grow. There are things you’re just not great at, but you know what? Everybody has those things to deal with, so that’s okay. Know what you are talented at doing, what makes you thrive, and what you want to get better at doing. Knowing yourself and being honest about that helps you to believe in yourself. Never allow a bad relationship with yourself. Find out how to fix that here: How to Love Yourself More | Mysticsense

Do Your Best

Sometimes, you don’t know if you can achieve something. So, how about you do the best you can while you find out? Our best is the only thing we can do- and we can’t do any better. Maybe you have never baked a pie from scratch before- but you would like to try. Get started and do everything step-by-step, finding out how well you can do. You might not bake the perfect pie the first time you try, but what did you get right? You will be pleasantly surprised how well you can do if you do your best. So try!

Improve

Remember those things you were thinking of improving? Do it. If you are having doubts that you can, ignore those. There was a time when even the experts knew nothing about what they now excel at. If they could learn to excel, so can you. All you need is the attitude that you want to, the energy to roll up your sleeves and work on it, and then the right educational resources. Take a class, get a teacher, or just read books. Pretty soon, the improvements you see will make you feel even better and believe in yourself even more. Magical self-care can help. Live YOUR Life

Sometimes, we set ourselves up for failure by trying to be too much like other people- people we are nothing like. It’s important to celebrate other people’s accomplishments with them and it is easy to see the good in other people. Just don’t try too hard to be like someone you’re not. Your talents, accomplishments, and qualities are just as good as other people's. Live your life your way. Celebrate the good things about you, and be the best version of yourself.

Redirecting the What If’s

Some of the suggestions to believe in yourself might not be possible immediately. The less you believe in yourself, the harder it is to start. Another way to start believing in yourself is to redirect the voice of self-doubt. Next time you ask yourself “What if I fail?”, redirect that with “What if I don’t?” It might feel safer to avoid trying because of the fear of failure. If you think of all the wonderful things that can happen if nothing goes wrong and instead things go right, it will feel harder to not try. Too many good possibilities await!

Believing in yourself is the beginning of any project, learning experience, or new relationship. Believing you are good, capable, and deserving gives you the courage to reach for all the good things you want in your life. Countless techniques to help believe in yourself can help- but if none of them do, all you have to do is think , “What will happen if things go right?” instead of worrying if things go wrong. Nobody is more qualified, capable, or deserving to live your best life than you! Go for it!
