Star Sign in Spotlight: Capricorn

The Sun passes through the constellation of Capricornus from December 12 through January 21. People born during this time are the sophisticated, hardworking Capricorns. The zodiac symbol for Capricorn is the sea goat. Classic mythology describes the sea goat as an incarnation of half goat god, Pan. Once, Pan jumped into the water to escape a monster, and attempted to turn himself into a fish to swim away. He didn’t move fast enough, and only his lower half became a fish. Later, he came to the aid of Zeus, and was rewarded by being placed amongst the stars as the constellation Capricornus. 

Capricorn’s ruling planet, Saturn instils discipline, responsibility, ambition, and the desire for status. Thus, the sea goat is called a “ladder climber.” Indeed, it is rare, if it is possible at all, to find a lazy Capricorn. Capricorn, along with Taurus and Virgo, is an Earth sign. Earth signs are described, at their best as being stable, generous, and grounded. They are described as being inflexible, overly materialistic, and stubborn “sticks in the mud” at their worst. Sometimes called “Wednesday’s Child”, Capricorn, although being the strong stable earth sign, is emotional, sensitive, and gets their feelings hurt easily, although few would guess. They often over-extend themselves in the drive to excel, and can neglect their health, eating poorly and foregoing sleep in a mad dash to head to the next thing on their to-do list. Sometimes, these tasks that take top importance to Capricorn are not as important to others, and this can cause a great deal of stress and disappointment for sensitive, driven Capricorn. 

Often misunderstood as being boring and having no social life, Capricorn is actually the one whose sense of humor keeps them, and everybody else, going on long work days. While they sometimes won’t stop going full speed ahead until they crash, they are sure to have a witty word about anything that happens. Their sense of humor can be dark, dry, and a pleasant surprise to those who wrongly assume Capricorn has no sense of humor. They can surprise those they know by putting together the very best, most cost-efficient outings, and their ability to plan a good time where everybody’s preferences are accounted for is a great source of pride for them. 

Love, Relationships, and Friendships

You never need to wonder if Capricorn likes you. They like few, but those they like, they REALLY like. Their regularly formal composure dissolves with complete trust in those they choose, and those close to them know their innermost secret feelings, fears, and dreams. Capricorn will drop what they are doing in a second to rush to the side of a loved one in need, and you can bet their careful planning has ensured they know where best to get every resource necessary. On bad days, they can be uncommonly cold and stingy with their loved ones, even complaining to whoever will listen if they are irked with them. In romance, Capricorn can make their significant other the center of their world as well as making them their number one partner in all they do. 

A perfect lady or gentleman in public, they cast off all inhibitions and are passionate lovers, yet are very private about their sex lives. Capricorn values straightforward matter of fact conversations, and does not ascribe to flirting rituals or playing games. While they value respect and tact, bluntness is preferable to beating around the bush. Be aware, however, if Capricorn feels you have violated their trust or if you are an embarrassment to their impeccable public image, you may find yourself minus one Capricorn friend or lover. 

Travel

Capricorn is one of the best signs to plan trips. They will have all logistics worked out and have lists of everything necessary. They will have thought of everything…and in their signature style of making things they best they can, just might over do it. They may plan as if they are headed out for months long safari when indeed they are only doing an overnighter. As Capricorn rules the Tenth House, that of Profession and Fame, travel for career and work is often necessary, and they are sure to find the most cost effective, and fastest way to make trips. 

Career

Career is Capricorn’s calling whether it be in the arts or in business. They do best in fields where they can call the shots and use their creative sides. They excel in management and any leadership position, finance, the arts, and make fine lawyers, teachers, and politicians. They thrive being the star, and in working someplace they can use their love of being in the spotlight, but don’t always do so well encouraging the people they supervise or at giving positive feedback. 

Most Compatible With?

Capricorn is most compatible with Taurus and Virgo. Capricorn loves the stability and dependability of Taurus as well as how Taurus can be devoted, and very comforting in both the emotional and material areas. Virgos are famous for their organization, and work ethic, and Capricorn loves this attitude and fellow hardworking mindset. Capricorn’s admiration for all things efficient and Virgos natural flair for the same make these two a great team in both the workplace and in personal relationships. 

Least Compatible With?

The signs considered least compatible with Capricorn are Libra and Aries. Capricorn is results driven, often ensuring they are in leadership roles, while Libra and Aries, also natural born leaders, don’t like being bossed around. Capricorn can find Libra’s flirtatiousness and ability to turn nearly everything into a good time irritating. Capricorn can be turned off by Aries impulsive rushing ahead with things, and Aries can find Capricorn to be a boring drag who is all work and no play. Capricorn and Aries can butt heads, literally, in direct competition with one another. These signs can be the best allies on projects if they can come to an agreement on who is in charge of what, and they delegate their talents. 

At the end of the day, the zodiac is not to be understood as a rigid set of rules that categorize who we are and who we are compatible with without any room for deviation.
