Star Sign in Spotlight: Aquarius

The most well recognised Greek myth for Aquarius involves the kidnapping of a young boy named Ganymede. According to the story, Zeus wished to capture Ganymede and thus sent his pet eagle, Aquila, to do so and return Ganymede to Zeus’ residence on Mount Olympus. After spending more and more time with the kidnapped child, Zeus felt it best to honor him by making him cup-bearer of all the Greek gods whose task it was to fill the God’s cups whenever they ran empty.

What makes Aquarius particularly interesting is that their personality types vary quite widely - some Aquarians are typically more reserved and thoughtful, while many others are bold and energetic. In sum, there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ Aquarian. With that being said, deep thinking and a high level of intellect is what unites all Aquarians. Regardless of their temperament type, they are willing to look at problems from various angles and come to deliberated, meaningful conclusions.

While Aquarians are able to match the energy of the room incredibly well, they can find too much intense social interaction overwhelming and may need to take some time out to recharge after a big event. As they are big thinkers, they tend to get lost in the busyness of their minds so may appear distracted at social occasions. This sign rejects conformity and thrives when allowed to operate according to their own wants, needs and wishes.

However, this attitude is what can make an Aquarian especially hard to tie down into a committed partnership. They can be rather skittish and favor brief flirtations rather than the safety and security of a long-term relationship. These types of relationships strike fear into the heart of an Aquarian as for them, it threatens the principles they hold most dearly; freedom, liberty and authority.

Regardless, Aquarians still make fantastic lovers once these initial hurdles are overcome. They are deeply passionate, loving and loyal partners who strive to fulfil the needs of their other half. While these traits certainly do exist, it may just take some extra time and effort to unleash them.

One thing that Aquarians love the most is to interact with new people and hear their life stories. Forming connections and finding common interests between themselves and somebody new is captivating for this inquisitive sign as they are on a constant search for new information and experiences. As a result of this trait, Aquarians typically find forming meaningful friendships remarkably easy, regardless of whether they are naturally introverted or extroverted as individuals. They are good listeners, trusting and have a sharp sense of humour that many other signs find captivating. They ultimately try and see the best in everyone and feel disheartened when that individual is unable to see their best qualities themselves. In sum, Aquarians are constantly rooting for their friends and will do everything in their power to see them succeed. However, Aquarians are known to take disappointments in their friendships rather seriously; cancelling plans last minute or spreading light-hearted gossip is a sure-fire way to fall into an Aquarian’s bad books.

Travel

As Aquarians are water bearers and ‘eternally giving’ in Greek mythology, it makes sense that they seek to give back on their travels. Volunteering, charity work or providing for the sick and disadvantaged in distant lands are truly mesmerizing experiences for this sign. Moreover, it is unsurprising that Aquarians regularly seek out aquatic destinations putting swimming, snorkelling, or partaking in water sports firmly at the top of an Aquarian’s travel itinerary. Lastly, as big thinkers with a keen sense of curiosity, destinations with a rich cultural history are a solid favorite for this intellectual sign. If travelling with an Aquarian, expect plenty of museums and historical tours. 

However, as this sign seeks freedom and liberation, it is rare to see them travelling in a large group. Muddled plans or disagreements over activities will only serve to frustrate an Aquarius and negatively impact their trip. Their ultimate goal is to truly experience and engage with the lands they have landed in.

Career

By this point, it will come as no surprise that Aquarians wish for independence and freedom in all areas of their lives. This is especially true of Aquarians in their career fields as they thrive the most in careers where they are able to take the reins. With this in mind, Aquarians tend to suffer when stuck in dead end jobs with little room for freedom of thought. Of course, none of us enjoy jobs of this description, but for Aquarians, they absolutely cannot abide being tethered to an uninspiring profession. As a result, careers that promote creativity, abstract thought and problem solving are a top choice for Aquarius. They make fantastic advertising executives, graphic designers and authors, but also have the tendency to become incredibly successful entrepreneurs. The sky's the limit for this sign.

Sagittarius

There’s little doubt that there is a strong connection between Sagittarius and Aquarius. They find unity in their sense of adventure and live life to the beat of their drums only. In addition, this couple shares similarity in their rejection of mundane and stale long term relationships. They both far prefer the spontaneity and excitement of brief flings and fleeting romances, however, over time the pair will see it futile to fight the prospect of a serious partnership. With this pair, it’s simply a waiting game.

Libra

As two air signs, Libra and Aquarius make a fun and playful pairing. It is rare to witness strife between this couple, as they are fantastic at hashing out any issues early doors. This couple is typically surrounded by a close group of mutual friends, and at times, may even appear to be platonic companions rather than lovers. This is not the case, however, as Libra and Aquarius prefer to keep the details of their relationship private and keep their affections behind closed doors. This is perhaps the secret to their romantic success, as it prevents interference from outsiders.

Gemini

It would be hard to find a single astrologer who would question the compatibility between Gemini and Aquarius. Similar to Libra, these two air signs will find themselves in a relationship filled with laughter and energy. As this pair are both highly inquisitive and curious, they can spend hours deep in thoughtful, philosophical discussion. Alongside this, Gemini and Aquarius are great socializers and will find themselves throwing the most extravagant and entertaining parties for their friends. Simply put, they are the couple everyone admires. 

Least compatible with?

Scorpio

While there are glimmers of potential between this pair, they typically struggle in long-term compatibility. Aquarius’ free-thinking and independent personality is likely to put the deeply emotional and intense Scorpio on edge. Not to mention, Scorpio’s moody episodes will grow tiresome for Aquarius who only wishes for transparency and openness in a partnership. That being said, there is compatibility in the signs’ love for deep, abstract discussion, however, they ultimately fare best as distant friends in order to avoid potential heartbreak.

Pisces

The territorial nature of Pisces is likely to feel smothering for the free-spirited Aquarius. In fact, these two signs could not be more divergent as Pisces constantly seeks reassurance in love, while Aquarius strives for autonomy and independence. With that being said, Pisceans have enough emotional intelligence to understand that this aloofness is simply part of Aquarius’ nature. Regardless, they will struggle with this lack of affection.

Capricorn

There are irreconcilable differences between these two signs as Capricorn wishes for stability and order and Aquarius dreams of the opposite. Aquarius fears nothing more than a simple and secure lifestyle and thus fails to see why Capricorn chooses to live so methodically. Moreover, Aquarius’ desire for deep, philosophical conversations is almost alien to the practical and level-headed Capricorn. This pair may be able to teach each other valuable lessons on account of their vast differences, however, there is little longevity for this couple.
