What Are Parenting Styles?
Developmental Psychologist Diana Baumrind started researching in the 1960’s about parenting styles and identified four parenting styles. The way parents teach their kids and prepare them for their own adulthood is said to create lasting effects on how their kids later function in life. These parenting styles your parents used will also influence what type of a parent you become. Authoritarian Parenting
Authoritarian Parents work hard to have a lot of control over their kids. They have strict rules, high demands, and serious punishments if you disobey. They are most likely to use physical punishment like slapping in the face and spanking if their rules are broken. Kids of authoritarian parents learn to lie so they can do things they want and they have emotional and social struggles. They learn to fear their parents instead of developing a relationship of trust with them. They can become bullies and are most likely to become Authoritarian Parents themselves.
Permissive Parenting
Permissive Parents strive to be attentive and warm with their kids, and they set few, if many rules at all. They focus on being encouraging and emotionally supportive. They almost function as their child’s friend as opposed to a parent. The positive side is these kids won’t fear their parents, and they are free to explore their own creativity. Authoritative Parenting
Authoritative parents balance guiding their children with supporting them. Rules are established and enforced, but the child is listened to instead of dictated to. This is a flexible parenting approach and independence within healthy boundaries is created. As kids get older, more independence is added in support of preparing the kids for when they grow up. These kids show high amounts of self-reliance and emotional control. This method makes kids into healthy, happy, self-sufficient people.
Neglectful Parenting
Neglectful parenting is basically not parenting. They may feed and house their kids, but that may be all they do. They do not enforce rules, do not have an active role or interest in their kid’s lives, and have little, if any presence at all. Kids have to grow up too quickly if their parents use this style, and may engage in risky behaviors. They can have problems forming emotional attachments and have abandonment issues as well as have problems with authority. Some people consider neglect a form of abuse. Taurus Parents
The Zodiac Sign Taurus is born to be a parent. They're not happy unless they have someone to nurture, and if you are their child, you will be one of their favorite people. They both busy themselves with feeding you, getting you to and from everywhere that you need to go, and unlike Aries parents, a Taurus just might build their life around you. They are likely to be very strict parents, but it's only because they really care about you and they don't want you to feel neglected. Cancer Parents
Cancers are another sign that love to be parents. Sometimes they forget to cut the apron strings and let their kids grow on their own. Virgo Parents
There's good news and bad news about Virgo parents. They're not always a lot of fun, but they are highly unlikely to neglect you. Being a Virgo's child may feel like going to boot camp, but you will come out more well prepared than any of the other kids your age. Your toys and games will be fun, but they will be educational and they will teach you the value of money from a very young age. You will have chores, and you will speak to people with respect. Libras approach parenthood the same way they approach everything else, democratically. Scorpio Parents
Scorpio parents are fiercely protective of their children. If somebody messes with you, your Scorpio parent will handle it. They will also expect you to learn to handle it and take up for yourself. They will tolerate your bad behaviors as long as they feel like you are constantly improving. Capricorn Parents
Capricorn parents are serious, hard working, and can be downright boring. They will take care of your every need, but they expect a lot of seriousness and respect from you.
